Marvel Zombies

7 October 2025

Was utterly shocked by how much I enjoyed this. Having not been a massive fan of the What If...? episode upon first viewing, and going back to that episode before this and thinking it was kind of horrible, I had such a blast with this.

It truly felt like an Avengers level event, which is something Marvel has kind of been missing since Endgame. It also felt like a real utilisation of the characters which have been introduced since Endgame, of which there has been very little projects which you're able to point to that have used these characters in any capacity, let alone well.

It, in a way, makes me sad that Marvel has wasted the characters they've been building since Endgame, as they really are sitting on some really wonderful characters, who are rife for exploration, if this show proved anything.

Centring this show on Kamala was such an inspired choice, she is hands down, the most interesting and personable character they've made in the new phases. This show knows this, and in a way I think the movies do as well, as she's one of the only people to have been utilised multiple times. Her dynamic with Kate and Riri at the start was so endearing, they had such a good flow, comedy felt natural, which is sometimes where I think Marvel has struggled.

Really compelling journey she goes on in this show and I was thoroughly impressed by Iman Vellani's voice acting. Honestly, the voice acting across the board was incredible, far from the issues I had with What If...? getting more Elizabeth Olsen is always a treat and she killed it - in a role which makes sense with her being evil. It was great to get Simu Liu back as well, just good work across the board.

The plot doesn't make sense a lot of the time. They play fast and loose with timelines and events happening, but it speaks volumes about the show that this didn't bother me all that much cause I was so compelled by the dynamics on show.

The comedy doesn't always land (but it's got a far better ratio that other projects) but this was a real step up, in animation, which is stunning, especially when it gets into crazy sci-fi stuff at the end, and in how the stakes felt real here. It was graphic and intense and I felt genuine fear for the characters, which I get comes with the story but still, this really was so much fun.
